2. Keeping the spine to vertical and rigid, which results in unstable movement (working 'against gravity') causing strain into the muscles and tendons of the feet, legs and back. You feel this as it happens when you do tasks and activities as 'stiffness'. This stiffness or strain is actually micro trauma to the tissue and results in the muscles being tight and weak. You need to know how to work 'with gravity'.
3. Breath holding as a result of holding the diaphragm 'in'. Nine out of ten people hold their breath momentarily as they do activities and tasks. This inhibits the abdominal muscles (your core) from working as a power transfer unit (torque converter) resulting in your front back muscles NOT working efficiently when they need to work. You feel this as a weak and vulnerable back, as strain in your back, as a boiler busting (strain) sensation into your face and eyes causing blood vessels to burst and hernias and 'back blow-outs' during strong ativity. When the breath holds you generate NO power as you do activities. This also causes you to run your body in a state of oxygen debt. There are three reasons that people hold their diaphragm in: i. Vanity; most people suck their diaphragm in to flatten their tummy. ii. Stress iii. Trying to keep the military model of so called 'good posture'. You need to understand how to release the diaphragm easily. Everyone can be powerful once the diaphragm releases, the more strength you have the more power you can generate.
4. Sitting in a position that puts end range pressure on the ligaments of the joints in the spine and distorts the discs. You need to know how to interact in a chair so that you always have comfortable posture. There are seven possible positions for comfortable posture.
5. Not using the hip joint through its full natural range of movement. Most people only use approximately 90 degrees of the hips potential 135 degrees of movement as they live their life. This lack of movement in the hip joint results in end range over stretching of the ligaments of the spine. You feel this as stiffness with bending and lifting actions. The stiffness is actually strain causing micro-trauma to the ligaments and muscles in your back. You need to know how to use your hip joint through its full range of motion for every day tasks. This lack of hip joint use also results in the hip joint wearing out due to the loaded surface not being distributed and shared over the full joint surface.
6. Stress. Most people recognise their low grade pains get worse when under pressure or stress or even when simply 'cold'. The posture of: stress, pressure, fright, cold, all result in an increase in muscle tension and breath holding as a result of the diaphragm tensing 'in' during these conditions. This further inhibits the abdominal muscles (core), resulting in a weak and painful back or neck pain. You need to know how to control your body when confronted by stress or pressure situations.
There are other contributing factors such as:hydration, balanced diet and being overweight however these have been addressed by other people and is not my area of expertise. Even large and bulky people benefit significantly with this programme without the need for weight loss.
Pain is a signal that you are damaging your body. Imagine a pin pricking your skin. It causes pain. The cause of the pain is obvious - it's the pin. Remove the cause and you fix the pain.
Now imagine a movement, a posture, or an activity that strains a muscle or joint. Not a lot, but a little. You feel this as stiffness or a twinge and jab as you do this slightly awkward movement. These sensations represent micro trauma to tissue. If you repeat the movement that caused the micro trauma often enough, the damage builds until there is pain. In this case the cause is not so obvious - there is no pin to see. But the solution is the same - remove the cause and you fix the pain.
